Let House Insurance

Basement flooded the house we rented. I have no renters insurance – landlord responsible anyway?
Our basement flooded on Monday, when the storm hit the east coast. We were about to pass (in May) I had most of my possessions, all in a corner of the basement. Half is in ruins. Our owner has called to let us know Monday morning around 10, all stopped working. He sid he was arrested early this morning when I spoke to him in the afternoon to let him know that was flooded. I wish we talked about the possibility of flooding before. I have no renters insurance. Are you responsible for any replacement cost? Forging be covered by your insurance? Looking for any help. Thanks
Do you have access to the cellar? If it does, then I do not think there is much you can do. If you can go there at any time without its owner to give access, then your property has been in your care. If the owner is obliged to open the basement and not / could not come to let you in, then you might have something there and want to talk to a lawyer.
